The SHAPERS cooperation project, supported by the European Union, stems from a longstanding commitment of partners: Ex Nihilo [project leader], Centre Rézodanse [Alexandria], Momkin-espaces de possibles [Marseilles] and Nassim el Raqs [Alexandria], Mes de Danza [Seville], Espace Darja [Casablanca], Zvrk Festival [Sarajevo] and In’8 circle-maison de production [Marseilles].
From 2015 until 2018, this group of choreographers, festivals, and venues for art residencies and dance schools worked together to give a long-term perspective to questions of intercultural and intergenerational training, to support an artistic dynamic in public spaces in Europe, the Balkans and the MENA region.
Eight young dancers from Egypt, France, Spain and Morocco were trained through their participation in a choreographic creation, favoring mobility and a long-term process. Around this creation, several projects
were implemented to connect operators, artists and audiences: 4 masterclasses with guest choreographers (Thierry Thieu Niang, Laly Ayguade, Ali Salmi and Karima Mansour) ; a Euro-Mediterranean tour (On Marche! festival in Marrakech, D-CAF in Cairo, Corn Exchange in Newbury, PLACCC in Budapest, but also in Tarragona, Mostar, Banja Luka, Sarajevo… ; conferences at the Sarajevo train station and a focus within the Festival de Marseille…
